Who is this course for?
This course is designed for those wishing to start drawing or painting or are returning after a break, who want to try out different mediums without having to invest in all the materials. This is a non-judgemental space where you can relax in the cosy studio and enjoy your creativity. This 5 week course will give you a full introduction to many different mediums including graphite, pen and ink, charcoal, acrylic and the techniques on how to use them.
What you will get out of it is a greater understanding of composition, drawing in different mediums and the various techniques to use, that will spark your imagination and entice you to experiment more when you get home.
First 2 weeks you will be introduced to pencil, shading, cross-hatching, pen and ink, charcoal and graphite. We will work on small studies of an object/s of your choice from a selection provided. You will make several studies in your sketchbook that you can refer back to.
Then in the 3rd and 4th weeks we will move on to the colour wheel and tone and hue and how to mix paints. In this class you will learn the basics of painting with acrylics and how to keep colour in the ‘tonal range’.
In the 5th week we’ll move on to our final piece, a larger still life where you will spend a couple of hours in a medium you are comfortable with to produce your artwork to hang on your wall.
